Dear Colleague,

You may be aware that over the year as LACA Chair I set a personal goal to run 10K across each of the LACA regions.  As a member of the APPG on the School Foods Holiday Hunger Task Group I wanted to help raise awareness and funds for holiday hunger/summer meals projects across the UK.

The aim is to support at least one project in Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England. The funding is still coming in which is great and I would like to thank everyone who has supported the cause, it has been tremendous.

The next stage of the process is to select Holiday Provision projects in each UK region to donate funding to and this is where I need your help. In simple terms it would be great if you could identify or inform local projects that there is a one-off funding opportunity that could support their project this summer.

Please invite them to submit an application form so that LACA can allocate funding.  As the project does not have to be a LACA member, and applications from any community group supporting children with holiday breakfasts or lunches will be welcome to apply, it is envisaged that the 100k Challenge funding would make a small contribution to assist in delivery of either food or staffing.  The project applying should also offer a level of enrichment to the children i.e. fun, games, learning, sport ,arts, types of engagement – this is critical to project success and  needs to be self-funded.

The level of funding to each would depend on the size of the project and request, aligned to the final amount of funding available. However the maximum applied for will be £??? we aim to share equally.

The application form (attached) will also be available on the LACA Website to download, complete and return to:

All forms need to be completed giving details of the project and the amount of funding required and need to be returned by closing date 24 June 2016.

Applications for each country will then be drawn by ballot by School Chef of the Year, Kath Breckon, and will be announced at this year’s LACA Main Event. A list of projects and funding allocated will be uploaded to the LACA website.

Projects that have been selected will be notified week commencing 11 July 2016 and funding transferred as soon as practicable thereafter.

Projects will need to be open to visits from LACA representatives during the summer and potential media coverage, as well as provide a reports of outcomes.  All of which will contribute to raising the profile.

Kind regards

Peter McGrath
